If a large calamity hits your city, don’t expect paramedics, police, and firemen to arrive at your home as fast first responders. They also will have suffered consequences of the calamity and even if not, they will be swamped with pleas for help. At best, you will be put on a long list which may take hours for anyone to arrive at your door.
Your best hope for help will be the nine neighbors living nearest to you.
If you don’t know them very well, now is a good time to befriend them. Who knows? They may save you and your family’s lives or vice versa.
Do not forsake your friend or your father’s friend, and do not go to your brother’s house in a day of calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away. (Proverbs 27:10)
